Somatic Movement 4 week series
Somatic Movement - a 4 week course with Mayank.
1 - 29 October.(No session on the 15th) Thursdays at 7.00 - 8.30 pm
Mayank is offering a 4 classes over 4 weeks through October. A Somatic Movement course that will offer a solid grounding in
the foundational movements, plus an opportunity to explore in depth, movements that focus on specific body areas.
Especially areas we often find are at the root of some of our pain and discomfort.
This program is open to everyone, regardless of age, ability or experience. Somatics is gentle on the body, and works with
the nervous system and brain very powerfully to enable great changes to happen from the inside out. Our movement
originates from within, and by addressing our movement patterns at their origin, the brain and nervous system, we can shift
out of painful patterns into ease and fluidity.
The 4 week program;
1. Thursday 1st October - An introduction and thorough exploration of the 6 foundational movements patterns.
We will run through a shortened sequence of these movements at the beginning of every following class (15-20min) as a
warm-up to that days exploration, so that by the end of the course, one is well versed in this daily maintenance routine.
Every participant will also get a 20 min video download of the routine free, for future reference.
We will also work on Neck and shoulders
Working around our upper body, we will work on the connections between our thoracic and cervical spine and head mobility.
And the connection with our shoulders and neck.
2. Thursday 8th September - Back & Core
Exploring our back extensor muscles, focusing on our lower back (lumbar spine) and its connection to our mid-back
(thoracic) and pelvis. We will also learn how to release our QL (quadratus lumborum) which is often under strain (ie, constant
contraction) from to much sitting.
This class will also focus on mobilising and releasing the muscles used in rotation and twisting movements through our torso.
This can help our gait pattern (ie, smooth walking) and more relaxed posture.
And because everything is connected, we can feel this extend into our shoulders and arms, hips and legs.
(note there is a weeks break here, as Mayank is unavailable on the 15th October)
3. Thursday 22nd October - Hips, pelvis, knees to toes
Starting with our feet and moving up the leg, we will use movement to re-pattern smooth efficient co-ordination between
ankles, knees and hips. We will focus on releasing our hamstrings, TFL and psoas muscle also.
4. Thursday 29th October - The Gait pattern & Full body integration
We will round out the course by looking at how the previous classes may come together to smooth out our gait pattern. And
we will finish with a series of beautiful full body integration movements. Enjoying all the ease and fluidity we have built into
our movement over the previous weeks, and expressing it in movements that can be very powerful resets physically and
mentally when we need to change our state, refresh our mood, or wind down for rest or sleep.
This course will only go ahead if there is a minimum of 5 people committed to the full program.
The cost will be $120 for all 4 sessions, including a video download of the 20 min Foundation routine.
Each class will be 90 mins.
If we go ahead with a core group of 5 plus, it will then be possible for people to join one or more chosen classes for $35 a
